Metro Redux Next-Gen Update Is Out on Xbox Series X|S: 4K/60, 120 FPS Mode and Xbox Ally Support

By MetaPatchAI Gaming · Published · Updated

Oct 30, 2026: 4A Games released a free next-gen update for Metro Redux on Xbox Series X|S on Thursday, Oct. 29. It upgrades both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, and it lands about three months before the next game in the series, METRO 2039, arrives on Feb. 4, 2027.

What the update adds

Per 4A Games' post on Xbox Wire:

  • Two performance targets: true 4K at 60 fps, or upscaled 4K at 120 fps.
  • 4A TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing.
  • Visual upgrades: more detailed textures, a refined lighting and shadow system, richer environmental detail and better animation.
  • Impulse Triggers: full support for the Xbox controller's trigger rumble.
  • Xbox Ally and Ally X: full support and optimization.
  • Xbox Play Anywhere support.

4A says each change was tuned to keep the look and feel of the original games.

Is it free?

Yes. 4A calls it a "free update" for Metro Redux on Xbox Series X|S. Download it and apply it to the games you already own.

What it means for players

If you have Metro Redux in your library, this is a good time for a replay before METRO 2039. The 120 fps mode is the standout for a fast shooter, and Play Anywhere plus Ally support makes these games easy to take on a handheld.

If you've never played the series: Metro Redux bundles both campaigns, Metro 2033 and Last Light, plus all their downloadable content, and includes the "Spartan" and "Survival" play styles and the HUD-free Ranger Mode. 4A says more than 50 million players have played the series since 2010.

What's confirmed / not confirmed

Confirmed (4A Games via Xbox Wire, Oct. 29, 2026): the update is out now on Xbox Series X|S, the 4K/60 and 120 fps modes, Ally support, Play Anywhere, Impulse Triggers, and METRO 2039's Feb. 4, 2027 date.

Not confirmed: whether the same next-gen update is coming to PlayStation or PC. The Xbox Wire post covers Xbox only, so we're not assuming it.
