Counter-Strike 2 Update Adds a Silent Reload Toggle and Fixes Black Liquid on AMD GPUs

Oct 30, 2026: Valve pushed a small but practical Counter-Strike 2 update on Wednesday, Oct. 28 (posted 5:48 PM ET). It is mostly a quality-of-life patch, and the headline change is one competitive players have wanted: you no longer have to hold the reload key to keep a silent reload going.

What changed

From Valve's official patch notes:

Gameplay - New option: Silent Reload Mode can be set to Hold or Toggle. With Toggle on, once a silent reload starts you can let go of the reload button. To cancel and switch back to a fast reload, tap reload again. - Fixed several cases where the first sound of a reload could be heard even when you asked for a silent reload.

Misc - Fixed a bug where liquid could render as black on AMD video cards. - Fixed some sound and UI bugs when rewinding during demo playback.

What it means for players

Silent reloads are about information. In CS2, sound gives away your position and your state. A reload you can't hear means an opponent holding an angle doesn't know you're vulnerable. Until now, staying silent meant keeping the key held down. Toggle frees up your hand for movement and crosshair placement during that window.

The sound fix matters just as much. If the first reload sound leaked even in silent mode, the feature was quietly failing at its only job. Valve says it fixed "various cases" of that.

AMD owners: if you saw black water or liquid in maps, this patch targets that rendering bug.

Demo reviewers: rewinding demos should now cause fewer sound and UI glitches, which helps if you review your own matches or scout opponents.

How to set it up

Valve's notes describe the option but not the exact menu path. Look in your game settings for the Silent Reload Mode option after the update downloads, and choose Hold or Toggle.

What's confirmed / not confirmed

Confirmed (Valve, official CS2 patch notes, Oct. 28, 2026): the Hold/Toggle option, the reload-sound fix, the AMD liquid fix and the demo-rewind fixes.

Not confirmed: PlayGround.ru reports that dataminers found a new rifle model, called "LAR," in the game files after an update, stored in a "do_not_ship" folder. Valve has not announced any new weapon. Treat it as an unconfirmed datamine.
